Welcome to WELCA!

The purpose statement of WELCA is:

  • As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.

IF YOU ARE A WOMAN IN THE CHURCH, YOU ARE A MEMBER OF WELCA!

Church-wide women’s activities are held periodically throughout the year.  In January, we sign up for Secret Pals, which continues throughout the year.  We organize the Maundy Thursday Communion breakfast at Easter, and also give women an opportunity to lead the congregation in worship on WELCA Sunday.  In December, we are privileged to conduct the decorating of the Chrismon tree in the sanctuary.  We also participate in statewide mission service projects and hold other fellowship events for women during the year. In addition to these church-wide events, we have three women’s circles (small groups) that meet monthly:

  • Lydia Circle:  Meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Family Activities Center.  Members take turns leading the bible study found in the Lutheran Women Today magazine.  Lydia Circle supports Birthright of Greenville by donating baby and maternity clothes and loose change saved in specially designated baby bottles.  They also support church projects such as the Angel Tree and the tablecloth fund.  Following their meetings, the women of Lydia Circle enjoy lunch and fellowship at various restaurants. For more information about Lydia Circle, please call Mary Carbaugh at 963-5229.
  • Rebecca Circle: Meets the third Thursday of each month (Sept. - June) at a member’s home.  The main focus of Rebecca Circle is bible study and fellowship.  For more information about Rebecca Circle, please call Becky Lynch at 862-7806.
  • Anja Circle: Meets the second Tuesday of each month, usually at the home of a member.  The primary focus of Anja Circle is to provide support to each other and service to the church and community.  Within the church, Anja Circle organizes the annual Easter egg hunt in the spring.  For the community, they make frequent donations to Safe Harbor, and also collect school supplies for Pendleton Place.  They also enjoy many fellowship opportunities, including a Christmas cookie exchange in December, a family picnic in July and an annual beach retreat in September.  For more information about Anja Circle, please call Lisa Phillips at 627-9141.
