If you have been our guest here at Messiah Lutheran, or if you are considering visiting, we want you to know how excited we are to have you here! Finding a Church Home is not very easy. Most of us are looking for personal spiritual growth, exciting worship, and a place we fit in.
Whether you have already made the decision to become a member or are merely open to try us out, we praise God that the Holy Spirit has led you to this point. Now we pray that the Lord will help you make an active commitment to our ministry.
We all were new, at one time, and we remember what it's like. So we've provided the information below, knowing that it's easier to venture into a new place when you know what to expect.
About Us
Messiah Lutheran Church exists to encourage all people to pursue a lifelong, joyous relationship with Jesus Christ. Our history dates back to 1966, when Lutheran pastor, Ruben Olawsky, arrived in Mauldin, with the task of developing a Lutheran mission congregation in the Golden Strip area. The church has been growing ever since.
Sunday Mornings
About 400 people attend Messiah Lutheran each Sunday, and we have many volunteers working hard to make sure all visitors are welcomed and encouraged.
Our congregation spans a range of ages and backgrounds. You'll see people in the pews dressed in all styles—from jeans to business suits. We have both traditional worship services (8:00, 9:00 and 11:15 AM) and "The Hearth", our contemporary service (11:15 AM in our Family Activity Center). Depending upon the season, we sometimes also have a Saturday evening service at 5:25 PM. See a description of our services here.
Each service lasts for about one hour. Near the beginning, the pastor will encourage you to greet the people sitting around you, but no one will single you out as a visitor. Also, we don't expect our visitors to give. So feel free to let the offering plate pass by when it comes down your row.
Kids are welcome and encouraged to attend worship services, but we also offer a variety of Sunday-morning programs for children, preteens, and youth.
If you have questions about worship or Sunday classes, ask the volunteers at the church entrance, or ask your pew neighbor.
If you need to talk or pray with someone about a personal struggle, we encourage you to seek out a pastor. Prayer petitions can also be made during the service, either silently or out loud.
Getting Connected
Getting connected at Messiah Lutheran is about relationships that get beneath the surface. Those kinds of relationship won’t come simply by attending worship services. They take time. One way to get connected is to join a fellowship group or Bible study. These are available for all ages—children, preteen, youth, college, men, and women.
Serving others also deepens your relationship with God and people. We offer a variety of service opportunities that will connect you with a team of staff and volunteers who work together in serving others and God.
Finally, you can engage with others through life learning and growth and recovery programs. From managing money to building a stronger marriage, these programs will help you know God and build relationships with His people.
Our Facilities
Our church facilities were designed with families and children in mind. Our Nursery is conveniently located near the Sanctuary, and it is staffed each Sunday from 8:30AM to 12:30PM. When you bring the little ones into church with you, there is a Cry Room in the back of the sanctuary where parents can participate in worship without the worry of the sounds of little ones distracting others. Also, the sounds of worship can be heard in our Gathering Area if an upset child is briefly carried out. After church, we have a new playground area for the children to use while their parents enjoy some coffee and conversation in the Gathering Area.
